Why Buy Healthy, Non-GMO Pet Food?
There are always dangers to the health of any living creature that eats food created in a science lab. Studies have found that rats fed GMO corn showed significant kidney and liver disease after only 90 days had negative effects on other organs as well, including the heart and spleen. The FDA has not posed the strict regulations on genetically modified foods that they have with other drugs and consumed products. Therefore the full extent of the necessary research has not been conducted.
Keeping our pets healthy is our responsibility, and the choices we make will greatly affect them. Unfortunately, today there are many pet food products that are unhealthy and can actually be toxic over time to our beloved pets. These products are marketed and labeled as “natural” and “healthy” but are actually not healthy or natural at all.
When shopping at GMOFreePetFood.com you can rest assured that you are buying your pet some of the most nutrient-dense, toxin-free and GMO-free food available for your pet.

You Can Make a Difference!
[ Translate this page into French, Spanish, Portuguese, German, or Italian. ]
Cat Quote of the Day: The best exercise for a cat is another cat
All too often, though, animals become victims of vicious acts of cruelty, leaving those of us who are animal lovers enraged and frustrated at the senseless of it. "Animals have no legal rights," we're told, or "they're just property." More humane people realize that no animal or person deserves to be tortured or tormented, regardless of their legal status. A cat should be treated as a lifelong companion, a fellow creature to be loved and cared for, not a "disposable" entity that is easily replaced.
- Stay informed of current animal welfare issues, sign petitions and write letters to your congressman. Treat your own pets well, and pass along the word!
- Many wonderful and caring
people have
created web sites or web rings that inform visitors about specific
issues
of abuse or educate them about animal care; below are just a few. If
you
maintain a "causes" site, please contact them directly.
- Educate
- Don't Amputate - extensive information about declawing
(lisaviolet)
- Pet Guardian Responsibility - a privilege and life commitment (Pawprints and Purrs)
- Low
Cost or Free Spay/Neuter Programs in the United States - an
excellent
(and growing) resource if you haven't yet spayed/neutered your pets.
(Love
that Cat) If you live in Utah, visit No More Homeless Pets' Spay/Neuter
page for coupons and other discounts, or see when the mobile
spay/neuter
Clinic will be visiting your area.
- A "birth control pill" for feral cats is under development. Read about it here. (ActionCat)
- Please Support Keeping Cats Indoors - why you should keep your cat indoors (Divine Felines)
- Have your cat(s) spayed or neutered and vaccinated against disease. It's your fault if "Momma" keeps getting pregnant. Your one-time spay/neuter investment helps your own town in the long run, as there will be fewer abandoned cats that won't have to be dealt with. Plus, you won't have to (try to) find homes for 5 or 6 kittens every few months.
- If at all possible, keep your cat(s) inside - a friendly cat who roams the street is, unfortunately, easy prey for animal abusers. An inside cat won't be hit by a car, acquire a disease from other wandering cats, or be mauled by a neighbor's dog. Cats can be perfectly happy inside all the time!
- Do not declaw your cat(s).
- Volunteer at your local animal shelter or privately-owned rescue organization. If you can't set aside the time, send a few dollars to your favorite organization. Or, ask them what supplies you can provide - if your cat has outgrown its carrier, for example, your local rescue organization would greatly appreciate it!
- Do not offer the kittens for FREE. Bad people sell them to laboratories, use them for sacrifices, or practice all forms of horrible abuse on them. At least interview the people and get their home address.
- Don't turn away visiting cats. Try to find their owner; or, if they are wild, seriously consider investing in them long-term as your "outside cats"--give them food, water, and shelter, and take them to the vet to be spayed or neutered. The lifespan of a "feral" cat is much shorter than that of a well-cared for inside cat, but you can improve its quality of life by caring for it responsibly.
- Adopt adult cats from rescue organizations or animal shelters, since those cats are in immediate peril of being put to sleep. If you must have a pedigreed cat, purchase it from a "family" cattery, not a "mill" that keeps its females constantly pregnant and in a kennel away from family members.
- Do not give an animal as a present unless you are sure the person wants it--if they don't, it will end up at the animal shelter and be put to sleep, or abandoned on the street. If you are a parent and give your child a cat or kitten, recognize that you are responsible for the animal as well as the child--don't presume that the child will always remember feeding time. Ensure that the child plays gently with the new companion.
- If you have a web page, provide links to the sites listed above (remember, there are many excellent sites in addition to them). And, sprinkle a few "care buttons" from CatStuff (link below) around your site to subtly educate visitors to your site.
- Care Buttons and Banners - these are my small contribution toward informing and educating Web visitors - please use any of them on your site
- Are You a Cat Lover?
- Take the I Can't Keep This Cat Because ... quiz.
- Cat Care Advice/Hints/Tips
- What About Declawing?

MonsterQuest Season 3: Episode 23 - Tigers in the Suburbs
Large cats are prowling parts of America and they may have a taste for flesh. Witnesses in New York State say they are seeing big black cats that may be stalking and killing the deer population. However, from the big cat family, only jaguars and leopards appear black and neither species is native to the eastern United States. Is the mind, as skeptics suggest, simply playing tricks? Or could dangerous escaped exotic cats be on the loose? An all star MonsterQuest team of trackers, scientists and technicians deploys the latest in surveillance equipment in search of proof of whatever monster is out there--before it kills.

Petition Against Eating of Cat Meat
FIGHTING FOR CAT'S RIGHTS! |
Sign the Petition to
CHINESE GOVERNMENT AND CHINESE PREMIER MR. LI KEQIANG
Dear Mr. Obama and Dear Mr. Barroso,
we are all world citizens and were shocked to see how the Cats are treated and killed in China.
We ask you both to convey our request to the Chinese government to enact a law prohibiting the trade and consumption of cat meat all over China.
Believe it! Millions of cats are killed yearly in China for their fur and meat. Torturous deaths including strangling, nooses bludgeoning & skinning alive are just a few ways these poor animals are being killed for their fur and meat.
In many countries Cats are considered a house pet but in some Chinese regions they are also considered as a source of meat and material for clothing production.
Cats fur is being mislabeled and exported to counties around the world to be worn by unsuspecting consumers. People are often unaware that they are wearing cat fur.
Cats are being subject to living their lives in small unhygienic and cramped cages until the day they get chosen. Cats are often bludgeoned and left semi-conscious before they are then skinned alive.
They are often tied up by their tails and legs, crying in pain as the torture of pulling the skin back from their bodies begins. Many workers stomp on the animals who struggle to much for them to allow a clean cut. Cats have been known to still be alive after they are skinned and then suffer an incredibly slow and painful death often just thrown onto a concrete floor breathing and writhing until they die.
Unfortunately there are no penalties on treatment towards animals on fur farms in China. Allowing workers to torture, abuse, starve, and mangle these animals before they die.
If most people knew what was going on in China they would be against and even disgusted with the cat fur trade.
PLEASE make a stand today and help the cats that are unable to speak for themselves. No Animal deserves to be treated this way.
Yes we can, we can Stop them, but just all together.
Thank you.

Petco pulls Chinese treats amid fears they sickened pets
By SUE MANNING
Jan. 5, 2015 9:19 PM EST
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says initial tests have not connected the Chinese jerky and rawhide treats to the illnesses, but the San Diego-based company and its rival PetSmart vowed in May to ban the snacks.
Petco is the first national pet retailer to pull the treats from its 1,300 stores. Phoenix-based PetSmart Inc. said Monday that it plans to have them off shelves at its roughly 1,300 stores by March.
The FDA targeted the treats after receiving more than 4,800 complaints of pet illnesses, including the deaths, after pets ate chicken, duck or sweet potato jerky treats from China. Tests have not confirmed any connection, but the agency is still investigating.
An FDA spokeswoman on Monday pointed to a news release from May about its investigation and declined further comment.
Petco Vice President John Sturm said all treats are now made in the U.S. or places such as the Netherlands, New Zealand, Australia and South America. The company risked tens of millions of dollars by changing treat vendors, he said.

We have to stop this PLEASE help!
French Islanders using live puppies and kittens as shark bait??
Please stop this senseless abuse to innocent puppies and kittens. French Islander, Mexican and yes American fishermen and hunters are using LIVE puppies and kittens as shark and alligator bait!! No living being should have to undergo this torture and insurmountable fear! This is inhumane and must stop NOW. Together we can make a difference and let our voice be heard as ONE. Please sign this petition and please pass this along. Thank you for caring. Blessed be ^;^
Currently the penalty is only 2 years and a little over$5,000 USD that is far too little for such a heinous crime. We urge that you raise the penalty to 10 years in prison with NO parole and a fine of $100,000. As well as offering a reward of $10,000 for turning in the offenders, which will come from the fines collected. This will hopefully act as a deterrent and will stop these horrendous acts against innocent animals FOREVER. Please do the right thing and help us stop these people.
Islanders on the French controlled Reunion Island have been using live dogs as shark bait.
The Sun claims that “a six-month-old labrador pup was recently found alive with a huge double hook through its snout – like the dog above – and another through a leg.”
It is also claimed that local fisherman have also been using kittens!
Reunion Island is an overseas départements of France and an official region of France, giving it the same status as a province or state in other countries.
Dogs Used as Shark Bait on French Island

Stephanie Roche of the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, another animal-welfare group in Paris, confirmed that live animals are used as bait on Réunion. But, she said, it is not a common practice.
The Bardot organization has been fighting the practice for a decade. But this is the first time Réunion politicians have reacted strongly and swiftly to stop it, Roche said.
The French Embassy in Washington, D.C., issued a written statement condemning the use of dogs as shark bait, emphasizing that such acts are illegal and will not be tolerated in the French territory.
The embassy maintains these are very isolated cases and authorities on the island are closely monitoring the situation.
The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in Friday Harbor, Washington State, is offering a U.S. $1,000 reward to any Réunion police officer who arrests anyone using live dogs or cats as bait for sharks.

Free Cat eBook for Download
Thanks to our partner, Petplan we are able to offer all users of FelineOnline.com access to this fantastic cat care eBook.
Enjoy a sample of the expert cat advice you can read about in the free eBook:
Introducing a new cat to the household
We think of cats and dogs as difficult to mix, and it is usually far easier to introduce a dog to a resident cat than it is to bring a new cat into the household, especially if it is an adult. Generally it is easier to introduce a young kitten as it seems to be much less of a threat to an adult cat and you can also manage it much more easily.
The most difficult scenario is bringing a new adult cat into the home of a totally indoor cat whose whole territory is bounded by the four walls of the house. With cats there is no guarantee that they will ever get on, however you can give them the best chance by recognising a few things which are very important to our feline friends.
Smell is more important to cats than sight. If the smell fits, they will relax and this is a tool you can use when introducing a new cat. Keep them apart initially (a few days to a week) in different rooms but pat one and then the other to mix their scents and even use a cloth to wipe around the cat’s face to collect some of the scents to dab around the house.
What you are trying to do is integrate the new smells with the old so that there is a new ‘group’ smell which the resident cat is happy with, and the new cat can fit in to.
If you have access to a kittening pen or dog pen (otherwise a cat carrier will do), then use this as a ‘safe house’ for the new cat (which will feel protected inside) while the resident can come and look, have a hiss and a spit and get to know the smell. Supervise some short introductions and gradually increase access. Then, when you feel the time is right, you can let them out together but give them high places to get away from each other.
Use food to get them to share space. In the winter the allure of a warm fire can overcome the most suspicious of cats and get them sitting in the same room together. It can take a long time to integrate a new cat and while many may never be on grooming terms, you have succeeded if they merely manage to live tolerantly alongside one another!
Poisons in the home
While dogs are prone to eating just about anything (especially if they are labradors), cats are usually much more sensible about not ingesting anything toxic just for the sake of eating it. However, they can be poisoned indirectly through ingesting rodents which have eaten poisoned bait. They also take in poisons via grooming. If they have a toxic substance on the coat, they will groom it off and ingest it that way. Cats can also absorb substances through their feet if they tread in them, eg creosote.
Poisoning in cats can be compounded further because cats have a peculiar physiology and lack certain liver enzymes, which means they cannot break down some chemicals and may be even more susceptible to some poisons. Dangerous substances include antifreeze and fuels, bleach, disinfectants and wood preservatives. Occasionally cats are given human medicines by accident – aspirin, paracetamol and antidepressants are very dangerous.
Garden hazards to avoid include rodent poisons such as warfarin, and strychnine; herbicides such as paraquat and sodium chlorate; some fungicides; insecticides such as pyrethrins, pyrethroids and organophosphates, organochlorides and slug bait, metaldehyde. All chemicals should be stored carefully and any spillages mopped up immediately.
There are also plants which can be poisonous to cats, although they do not usually eat these unless they are bored or are indoor cats looking for a substitute for the grass they nibble outside. The Feline Advisory Bureau has a leaflet listing poisonous plants both indoor and out.
